Advancing Integrity in the Supply Chains of Critical Energy Transition Minerals

On 7 May 2025, UNICRI will participate in the partner-led session Advancing Integrity in the Supply Chains of Critical Energy Transition Minerals: An Evidence-Informed Policy Dialogue at the OECD Forum on Responsible Mineral Supply Chains, taking place at the OECD Conference Centre in Paris. The session will run from 11:00 to 12:30 in Room CC13 and will be held on-site only.

The event is jointly organised with the Basel Institute on Governance, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI).

The dialogue builds on the work of a UN-mandated panel, which in September 2024 released guiding principles on critical energy transition minerals. In this context, UNCTAD and UNIDO are co-leading the implementation of Actionable Recommendation 2 (AR2), which calls for a global traceability, transparency, and accountability framework along the entire mineral value chain, with UNECE serving as a co-lead.

This session will offer a platform for generating concrete input to support integrity and anti-corruption efforts as part of the AR2 follow-up, while also ensuring alignment with existing instruments such as the OECD Due Diligence Guidance and the EITI Standard.

The discussion will bring together representatives from international organisations, governments, civil society, and the private sector. It will be informed by assessments conducted by the Basel Institute on Governance in Bolivia, Indonesia, and Ukraine; due diligence tools developed by EITI to address governance and corruption risks; and UNICRI’s recent report on crimes related to critical minerals in Southeast Asia.
