“Culture of Legality and Public-Private Partnerships for the Social Inclusion of Inmates: The Province of Caserta for a New Model for International Development” is the theme of the conference to be held on 29 May 2025, from 9:00 to 12:30, in Caserta, at the International High-Level Training Centre for the Prevention and Fight against Organised Crime.
The initiative is part of a pilot project developed by the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) in collaboration with ASI Caserta. The project aims to strengthen the resilience of the province through field research to identify critical challenges, the promotion of best-practice models based on public-private partnerships (PPPs), and awareness-raising activities.
Reducing the impact of organised crime on the social and economic fabric of the territory is the core objective of the initiative, which also seeks to develop innovative models for social inclusion and the labour reintegration of inmates. Enhancing security and local economic development, promoting effective and inclusive rehabilitation pathways, and creating opportunities for vulnerable youth (including those with a history of contact with the justice system) are among the final goals.
The conference, which marks a milestone in this process, will open with remarks by Leif Villadsen, Acting Director of UNICRI, and Raffaela Pignetti, President of the ASI Caserta Consortium.
Speakers will include:
• Nicola Gratteri, Chief Prosecutor at the Court of Naples
• Sebastiano Ardita, Deputy Chief Prosecutor at the Court of Catania
• Lina Di Domenico, Acting Head of the Department of Penitentiary Administration (DAP), Ministry of Justice
The conference will conclude with remarks by Hon. Edmondo Cirielli, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy
