Azerbaijan Leads Strategic Planning for CBRN Risk Mitigation with Expert Input

 

For over 15 years, the European Union’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Risk Mitigation Centres of Excellence (CoE) Initiative has stood as a cornerstone of international cooperation and preparedness. With 63 partner countries working together, this flagship programme has not only fostered collaboration but also delivered tangible results in strengthening national and regional capacities to prevent, detect, and respond to CBRN threats.

Workshop on Strategic Development for the Use of Digital Rehabilitation in Prisons

 

A two-day Workshop on Strategic Development for the Use of Digital Rehabilitation in Prisons was co-organised by the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI ) and the Thailand Institute of Justice (TIJ). The event brought together officials from the Thailand Department of Corrections, practitioners, and international experts to explore how digital tools — such as virtual reality and e-learning — can enhance rehabilitation, education, and reintegration opportunities for prisoners.

CONTACT – Train-the-Trainers Session Strengthens Kazakhstan’s Capacity to Counter Radiological and Nuclear Trafficking

 

The United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) conducted the first Train-the-Trainers (TTT) session on countering radiological and nuclear (RN) trafficking for Kazakhstan’s security and law enforcement agencies. The five-day training, held on 6-10 October 2025 at the Nuclear Security Training Center of the Institute of Nuclear Physics in Almaty, marked a significant step towards strengthening national and regional capacities to prevent and respond to RN trafficking threats.

Shanghai University of Political Science and Law Visits UNICRI Headquarters to Strengthen Cooperation in Crime Prevention, Criminal Justice and the Rule of Law

 

On 13 October 2025, UNICRI Headquarters in Turin welcomed a delegation from the Shanghai University of Political Science and Law (SHUPL), reaffirming the longstanding collaboration between the two institutions in the areas of crime prevention, criminal justice, and the rule of law.

Technical Workshop: Participatory Consultation and Validation of Priority Areas Facing Climate and Violent Extremism Risks in Mauritania

 

On 7 October 2025, UNICRI, with the support of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, convened a technical workshop in Nouakchott to consult and validate priority regions most affected by the intersecting risks of climate change and violent extremism in Mauritania.
