The Initiative’s project on laboratory iso-banking closes in Manila, the Philippines
Manila, 7 September 2105: In the past two years the project “Strengthening laboratory bio-safety and bio-security through the development of a laboratory iso-bank system” (Project 15) has been implemented in Thailand and the Philippines.
UNICRI presented new developments related to its CBRN Risk Mitigation and Security Governance Programme at the plenary session of the Annual Meeting to Coordinate Assistance and Protection under the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), which was held in Madrid, Spain, from 1 to 3 July 2014. The meeting, organised by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and the CWC National Authority of Spain, provided a forum in which CWC States Parties shared their experiences in relation to the implementation of the Assistance and Protection provisions of the Convention.
Despite the increased attention to the problem of violence against women, there is still a substantial lack of information and data on the scope and extent of the phenomenon.
This is true also for the European Union, where no comparable data on violence against women exists.
UNICRI is participating in the EU-wide project “Addiction and Lifestyles in Contemporary Europe: Reframing Addictions Project (ALICE RAP)”, a five year research project which brings together participants from 43 research institutions in 25 European countries.
Funded by the European Union, the four-million euro War Crimes Justice Project was carried out by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) in partnership with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) and OSCE field operations in the region.
UNICRI, in collaboration with the International Criminal Court Office of Public Counsel for the Defence (ICC-OPCD) and with the support of the International Association of Lawyers (Union Internationale des Avocats - UIA), runs on a yearly basis a Seminar on International Criminal Law Defence. The Seminar, which is held in Turin at the UN Campus, is designed for practicing and trainee lawyers interested in the practice of international criminal law whether in national or international courts, and those professionals working with organizations involved in this area.
