The 4th edition of the UNICRI Summer Course on Migration and Human Rights ended on July 19th. The Course took place from the 15th of July to the 19th of July in Rome, Italy, and was organized by UNICRI in cooperation with John Cabot University. Its aim was to equip post-graduate students and young professionals with legal, social, scientific and theoretical tools to better understand and tackle the growing challenges of international migration.

International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.
Countering gender-based violence, addressing vulnerability factors and empowering women have always been at the forefront of UNICRI work. Over the last 50 years the Institute has centered its crime prevention, justice and human rights protection programmes on gender issues and reducing the factors of vulnerability of women and girls.

On Thursday, April 6th at 10.30 to celebrate the UN International Day of Sports for Development and Peace an event has been organized by the Italian Association for International Organization (SIOI) in partnership with the United Nations Interregional Crime and Research Institute (UNICRI), and in cooperation with the CSIT World Sport Games, the Italian Paralympics Committee and the Italian Sport Committee against Drugs and Addiction.

Today, the United Nations Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) has been invited at the Jo Cox Committee in Rome to present its work and discuss good practices in preventing and countering discrimination against vulnerable groups, with a special focus on hate crime and online hate speech.
Despite the progresses achieved in addressing gender issues, ongoing discrimination and unequal treatment continue to affect women and girls worldwide. The International Women's Day serves as a reminder to all actors to ensure respect for women’ rights and prevent violence and abuses against women. Still today, there is a need for encouraging a safe and peaceful environment free of repression and violence in which women and girls at all levels can obtain equality and can fully contribute to and benefit from the positive effects of development.

The Ugandan break-dancer and social visionary, Tekya Abraham (known as Abramz) was given the 2016 San Patrignano’s WeFree Award by the Director of UNICRI, Cindy J. Smith on 12 October.
