Voci Contro il Crimine - Voices Against Crime in Naples
The Voice of Victims for Change
A new pilot initiative, "Voices Against Crime," was developed by UNICRI in cooperation with the Municipality of Naples, with the participation of media partners Il Mattino and Fanpage, and the involvement of several NGOs.
The initiative aimed to give voice to the victims by collecting their stories and making their experiences the foundation for an awareness campaign to promote future interventions in prevention, development, and assistance.
The final report was presented and discussed by the Mayor of Naples, Mr. Luigi de Magistris; the Director of UNICRI, Mr. Jonathan Lucas; and representatives from Comitato don Diana, Cooperativa Sociale Dedalus, Fondazione POLIS, Associazione DreamTeam-Donne in Rete, SOS Impresa, Gruppo Dignità e Bellezza (IPIA di Miano), San Mattia onlus, University Suor Orsola Beninincasa, University of Salerno, Italian Ministry of Justice (Procura della Repubblica di Napoli), Fanpage, and Il Mattino. During the event, actress Imma Villa read the story of a victim.
The final report included stories from the victims and their analyses, experts’ contributions, NGO analyses and suggestions, and UNICRI’s recommendations. The collection and analysis of the stories shed light on different types of crime, aimed to identify good practices and critical issues to be addressed in victims’ support policies and practices, and ultimately to build resilience.
This pilot initiative falls under UNICRI’s urban security programme. It promotes knowledge, cooperation, and raises awareness on crime prevention and victims’ empowerment. The pilot initiative supports a bottom-up approach and fosters dialogue between civil society and governmental institutions.
