Funded by the European Union

Within the framework of the European Union Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Risk Mitigation Centres of Excellence (EU CBRN CoE) Initiative, the ninth Round Table Meeting of National Focal Points for the South East Asia Region was held in Nha Trang, Viet Nam from 4 to 6 February 2015.

The meeting, which brought together National Focal Points and experts from the region as well as international experts from the EU and International Organizations, was opened by the Department of Science and Technology of Khanh Hoa Province (Viet Nam), the Head of the European Union CBRN CoE Regional Secretariat, the European Commission, and UNICRI.

The ninth Round Table Meeting provided an opportunity to evaluate projects completed in South East Asia in the last two years, to discuss the latest developments of the CBRN CoE Risk Mitigation Initiative in the region and to consider regional priorities for future projects (including projects involving export control). The meeting also offered an occasion to examine cooperation among CoE partners and facilitated bilateral discussions between individual South East Asian nations and the Regional Secretariat of the EU CBRN CoE Risk Mitigation Initiative for South East Asia, hosted by the Philippine government.

The EU CBRN CoE Risk Mitigation Initiative is funded by the European Union and jointly implemented by the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) and the European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC). The initiative is developed with the technical support of relevant international and regional organizations, the EU Member States and other stakeholders, through coherent and effective cooperation at the national, regional and international level. The initiative involves 48 countries in 8 regions of the world.
